Mind Over Mountains With Alex Staniforth

Alex Staniforth found that running, walking, and cycling to the highest point in each UK county was faster than the waiting time to receive any mental health support from the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). It’s not that there’s nothing, but rather that the NHS is overwhelmed with so many needing support.

It was at this point that Alex started Mind Over Mountains charity – his very own Natural Health Service supporting those in need, and bringing them together as a community.

Growing up walking in the Lake District with his family, Alex Staniforth had a fairly straight forward outdoors upbringing. But, one day he decided to push himself and paraglide. From here, he started pushing himself in so many different areas.

Alex started to question the limits that he had placed on himself. His mindset shifted from a victim mentality to a victory mentality.

After climbing Mont Blanc, attempting Everest in 2014 and 2015, an expedition in Tibet, and exploring in the Himalayas, Alex realised that there is so much adventure be had in our own country! It became his new Everest.

Finding Perspective In The Mountains

I am a huge advocate for getting outdoors to better your mental health, but I’m a bigger advocate for getting into the mountains.

As someone who experiences lows a few times throughout the year, I have nearly always found that all of the issues bothering me are just so small and insignificant in the grand scheme of not only your life, but life on Earth.

For that hasn’t worked, the getting outdoors has helped to discover what I can and can’t control, and formulate a plan to overcome the obstacles.

I want to listen, now!
